It is becoming more common for couples to choose unusual wedding options than stick to the traditional venues at places of worship or wedding halls. No longer do couples feel the need to be conventional in their choices. They want a day to remember and hope to one day be telling their grandchildren about their wedding day. More couples want this day to be a remarkable one that was different from what anyone else did and perhaps more reflective of who are they as a couple.
That is why one couple decided to get married at their local supermarket. Having met at the store they decided it was only fitting to marry there as well. They walked down the aisle where they first saw each other to an altar that was fashioned from cases of coke. Another couple did a similar thing but it was a seven eleven store that they had met in. She worked at the store and enjoyed it very much and so wanted to be married there. He wanted her to be happy so it was fine with hm. They were married outside the store with her carrying her bouquet nestled in a container from a Super Big Gulp drink. The wedding party consisted of four children aged seven to eleven. They invited her favorite customers to be there for the ceremony and served Slurpees and hot dogs from her store at the reception. Adding to their celebration was the choice of the wedding day. They married in the seventh month on the eleventh day.
In the 1990s a couple married on a roller coaster. They won their roller coaster wedding as a prize from a local radio show contest. They sat in a double seat with the minister sitting behind them. When the ceremony was over they all took a trip on the roller coaster, exchanging their first kiss as a married couple as the ride began. The reception was held at the base of the ride. Did the couple choose this unusual wedding venue because they knew that married life has its ups and downs?
Unusual wedding choices are more than just an emerging pattern of the last decade or two. During the Second World War couples were married in a very atypical manner. Due to the fact that many North American soldiers were stationed in Britain they became involved with women there. Many of these relationships were more than simply a lonely solder looking for company for the months they were overseas. Many of them were serious. This created problems when they were shipped back home. So, a lot of these couples were married by transatlantic phone calls. The marriages were legal and although perhaps not what every girl dreamed of, by marrying in this manner they were able to join their husbands in their home countries.
Still, these are tame in comparison to some of the unusual wedding venues that couples have chosen. For example, there was the couple who married in wet suits that they fancied up so they could marry in a second foot deep tank. They said their vows through their snorkels. Another unique place to get married is on the wings of an airplane. Several couples have chosen to wing walk where the couple stands on the wings of the plane and the person who presides at the ceremony is strapped onto the small plane flying in front of them. The ceremony must be shouted from plane to plane and the couple responds over a microphone. Or there was the young woman in India who married her fiancé moments before he was cremated. Though he had died after a tragic accident, she was given permission to marry him dressed in her wedding attire just before he was cremated. There were the circus performers who used pyrotechnics to set fire to her train, a planned event, to make their wedding ceremony the hottest on record. Another circus couple exited their ceremony with two highly trained elephants acting as the arch they walked under. Other couples have had their weddings take place in bowling alleys, on golf courses, in museums and on bridges. No matter what unusual wedding choices couples make they are creating a day to remember.
