The purpose of a wedding announcement is to let others know that there has been a joining of two people. They can either be mailed out to individuals or submitted to the local newspaper. These announcements are more commonly sent out if a couple decides to elope so they can let those they are close to know that they are now a married couple. But, some couples like to announce their marriage after their wedding especially if for some reason they chose to have a wedding smaller than they wanted. If a couple chooses to do this, the way they make the announcement is very important.
When writing a wedding announcement there are certain key facts that should be mentioned. Concerning the bride, it should have her full name and city of residence. As well, it should have her occupation or name of the school she is attending. It shod have her parents names and their city of residence and it is a nice touch to mention any grandparents who are still living. All of the same things should be mentioned for the groom. Next it should say when and where the wedding took place. This should include the date of the wedding, the location of the ceremony and the location of the reception if it was different. Then those who were in the wedding party should be mentioned. This should include the name of each person and their role in the wedding party. If they are related to either of the bride or groom this too should be noted.
The wedding announcement should continue by having a description of what the bride was wearing and the dresses worn by the maid of honor and the bridesmaids. A description of the tuxes worn by the groom, his best man and the ushers should also be described. It is also common practice to say who conducted the ceremony. Once these details have been given it is okay to then describe anything about the wedding ceremony that is thought to have stood out. The announcement should end with a comment on where the couple went on their honeymoon followed by the address where they will now live together as man and wife. If you are sending your announcements out to individuals then make sure that you get lists from both sets of parents on anyone they would like to send one to. The fact that you include their friends or family members will be much appreciated.
If you are preparing your wedding announcement for the newspapers all the information required is the same. The only difference is that you may choose to put a black and white photo in the paper along with your announcement. This photo will likely be bigger than the color one you might send with the announcements you mail. Putting all of this in the newspaper will be an expensive effort but it will give you a chance to tell everyone at once that you are now married, that the wedding was wonderful and that you have settled back into life’s routines again.
